Okay, here is a good one, and has probably already been discussed but it might be a good reminder.

After manually editing a floor joist and turning it into a flush beam, block this member with another, so if you need to rebuild the floor system again , this flush beam will remain.

Of course it would be nice to have an option in the dbx for this joist to be retained (if CA has not already thought of it) but until then.....

The videos we watch are not 100% gold, but if we find a gold nugget, the time spent viewing has a value.

I like it. Could have used that trick on my last deck build.

Another option is to use a beam instead of a joist. Chief retains beams when rebuilding framing.

How to deal with possessed arrow attachments

Arrows like to do squirrelly things when you things under or near them. Stretch a layout box and arrows can become possessed. Similar things can happen in plans, sections, elevations...

A sneaky way to tame them: Select the arrows, Ctrl-X to delete them and store them on your windows clipboard. Make your edits, then Ctrl-alt-V will put the right back where they belong, pointing right where they always dis.

If your edits will require the use of the window clipboard, park them in a new blank plan file (again with Ctrl-Alt-V or Paste/hold) for safe keeping. When you're ready to bring them back, copy (Ctol-C) or cut (Ctrl-X) and paste/hold (Ctrl-Alt-V) works like a charm.

    Thank you.

Ctrl-Alt-V aka Paste/hold is one of my favoritist of all useful things in Chief. It works on everything. You can park an entire garage or addition in a separate plan file and then bring it back when you're ready for it. Try that on a construction site!

Nice Wendy..... but how how about this....... select all arrows and block them, do your editing and then unblock.... same result without the cutting and coping.

Huh! I'm guessing that works also. You might get some annoying selecting of that block, but that's probably the only only downside.

I'm wishing there was a way to group select just the arrows, rather than pick, pick, pick. Anybody find one?

Yes, select the arrow tool and then marquee select.

    Scott,

You need to hold SHIFT+marquee select.

Otherwise it tries to draw an arrow...

And also you need the "Text Line with Arrow" tool to select only
arrows. Otherwise the "Leader Line" tool will select the text also...

    Aha!

I was trying with just the line tool, and getting the text also. I like it. Thanks.

I'll have to try these arrow tricks.
I have just been deleting them and drawing new ones rather than use up all my bad words for the day.

Here's a way to easily update camera images like perspective overviews, 3D renderings, 3D vector views, raytraces, etc. in your layouts:

    http://www.chieftalk.com/showthread....761#post308761

It saves me a lot of time updating layout when I'm doing revisions.
