If you want to edit a molding poline from the library, draw a molding with it, take a cross section, and trace the profile with cad lines.

Then save the cad profile in a plan so you don't have to trace it next time.

Gee, I always thought the easiest way to do this was to right click on the library profile and select the menu option to place the molding profile in the plan.

You've got to explore all of those little menus, toolbars, and check boxes in the dialogues first. The workaround, justified when necessary, is by nature the hard way.

This isn't really a CA trick, but when we save files on our server, we have a folder with
the name of the job. Then in the folder we save our CA files starting with Z and
working our way to A (with each consecutive revision). That way we know that the
most current file will be at the top of the list.

Just thought I'd share that one for anyone who cared. It works out good because
then you know which one is the most current without and special "codes".

Or you could name from A to Z and change the sort order of the name column.

If you want to Rename a camera view, easier to have it open and then change the name here than trying to figure out what one it is in the Project Browser..

I always name/label the section for layout, copy the text and paste that into the section name..

we use the chief version so we don't lose track etc

We use street address instead of client name as it takes less characters

What about "those" jobs with more than 26 versions?

We rarely have jobs with more than 26 versions....

The closest I've gotten is revision B.

But If you feel like they're still making a lot of revisions and you're on C or B,
then on the next revision you can jump to AZ, or BZ, or CZ...

The problem with the "Jones_9/16/10.plan" is that the file name is pretty long.
With this method, it's just "F", and you know that's the latest...

I remember a thread a while back where someone was frustrated with trying to get a corner window setup with a 3 1/2" post at the corner. The problem was that the windows would not position exactly where needed. I found a way to force them into position. Here are the steps:

Start by drawing one wall short of the corner, and the other wall long. Use a cad line to trace the outside main layer of the short wall past the long wall. Place your first window in the long wall, and dimension from the cad line to the nearest window edge. Move the window to the desired dimension, for my example I used a 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" post at the corner plus 1/2" for R.O.

Next, copy both walls to another plan using paste-hold-position and do the same for the opposite wall.

Now, return to the original plan and delete the wall without the window, and drag the wall that ran long back to the cad line. Next, copy the wall with the window from the other plan into the first plan, using paste hold position.

Now drag the wall back to the corner. One or both windows may need to be opened and closed so they recognize that they are exterior windows.
