Can anybody advise on a possible way to overcome this?
I have downgraged my new pc to have xp pro 64bit- all other hardware in the pc is more than adequate.

Chief 9.5 is a 32-bit program as is all versions of Chief
While later versions of chief run fine with Windows 64-bit
it's possible that ver 9.5 can't ???
you may need to use Windows XP in 32-bit mode ???

Lew
many thanks for your helpful answer. DO you think Chief Architect Support Team could have told me that in the first place? Instead they just sent me many links to upgrades for my 2004 software!! I feel a little bit disillusioned with them really. I have selftaught everything I know and since I am based across the pond from you I am pretty much on my own.
Have a great day.
Adios

Ricardo:
yes, but I may not be right
ver 9.5 MIGHT run on Xp 64-bit
However, CA doesn't provide tech support on older versions
so you'll have to wait to see if someone else has had success and even then you might not be able to ???
some have had success running ver 9.5 on Vista or Win7, yet most can't
You should give serious consideration to upgrading as ver 9.5 is an "antique"
download the X3 trial version and check it out

9.5 is an ancient version of Chief in software years. I think I started doing development on a 64 bit version of XP during version 10. If my memory serves 9.5 may not install on 64 bit due to hardware lock driver issues. It may be possible to work around the installation issues by copying the install from another computer. Your pretty much on your own on that though as it was not a supported operating system for 9.5 or any version of Chief.
Upgrading is something that you really should consider.
First, the latest versions of Chief fully support Vista and Windows 7 and run best on the latest operating systems.
They run faster on the latest hardware and support multiple core systems.
They support the newer graphics hardware.
There are hundreds of new features.
If you want to run 9.5 your best bet is to install it on a 32 bit version of XP. We normally don't talk about the 64 bit version of XP because most people don't even know it exists and very few people have ever used it.
