    # of Top plates?

Is there a way of specifying the # of top plates per wall?
Inside partitions (non-bearing) don't usually have 2 top plates..

    Yes.

Build all your bearing walls, frame. Select all those walls check retain wall framing. In framing dbx change top plate number to 1. Add non load bearing walls and build framing again.

Man I thought you knew all this stuff.

Allen have always used 2 top plates 1st so that any walls that have joints in them I would always stradle that joint with the top plate even when it is centered over a stud and the 2nd reason is to lap the top plate over walls that would be horizontal to them so as to tie the walls together

I was asking for a non work around solution.
This is for the non-bearing(inside partitions) walls that go up after the structure..
Kind of hard to tie them in with a double top plate nailed after.
They get nailed up through the single top plate to hold the top in place.

Thinking this might be a good suggestion.
Be able to specify the number of top plates for bearing and non-bearing walls..

I also know how to edit a wall framing in cross section or wall detail..

    Allen,
I,you,we have to do what Louis is saying anyhow to get rid of the headers over interior non-bearing doors, so just take care of the plates the same time you take care of the headers.
It's a workaround, but what else is there?

This is not a big deal.
It is for elevation views where I need it mostly.
Thought it would be better to have an option for Chief to build it the way the designer wants it built.
Would be better for the material list too.

    Allen,
When the structure is complete it is often difficult to raise a wall that has been assembled on the floor because gains a little height as it pivots.

We shoot up with the laser and locate the top plate and nail it in place; then raise the wall with it's single top plate with ample clearance, and slip it under our already located top plate.

This also allows us to get a good measurement on the studs.

Is that typical in your area? Here we frame all walls with two top plates, and the 2nd top plate of the interior wall laps the first top plate of the exterior wall. This adds strength to the connections and the overall structure. We build all of our interior walls before the floor/roof goes on.

    Hi Rod
    Yes it is typical.
We build the bearing walls that are need to get the next floor or the roof on.
We strap the ceilings, so it is easier if it is open. Then the walls get nailed to the strapping.

So you have a different stud height for those walls ? We normally get precut studs ( 92 5/8", 104 5/8", etc....) for 8'1 walls, 9'1 walls , and frame all the walls with dbl top plates so that you can tie all the walls together at the partitions.

    Same height.
1 plate with 3/4 strapping on top.Ceiling has 3/4" strapping on it.
Works out the same as 2 top plates..
