Why does Chief render different side of the building different colors?
Does anyone get as mad as I do at the fact that Chief Architect is supose to be a mature program and its printing is a a "first grade level. When your selling a graduate school product and gharging for same it would seem that the powers to be would care about the fact that the customer can not print a successful color sheet.
This may not be printing but has been discussed to no avail before. Why does Chief render different side of the building different colors. I just had to go thru a circus to even get color elevations to a layout. The two side elevations print normal and the end elevations are twice as dark.
It is beyond me that a company who is so vocal about how great their renderings are can't produce software that will give one an accurate print.
Dan, Dermot and the rest of you do you really care, or are you like Wall Street just collec thte money and the customer be dammed.

If you have default sunlight turned on, the sides of building will be shaded differently...even in vector view.

"Why does Chief render different side of the building different colors?"
Since you are talking about elevations, I assume that you are talking about vector views and not render views becase these are completely different.
This is a feature. Chief will automatically shade surfaces in all vector views depending on what direction they are facing to give you better definition in your camera views. You can control how much or little a material is shaded by adjusting the Shading Contrast in the Define Material dialog. BTW, this feature has been in the program since as far back as I can remember (at least V5 and it was probably in V4 too). See attached images for examples of how this looks with the contrast set normal (31%), off (0%), and max(100%).Dermot Dempsey

Ron, did you set the Shading Contrast in the Define Material dialog box to 0%?

"Why then, do the East and West elevations show the same dark color and the North and South elevations show a lighter color."
Because it is not based on the sun angle or default sunlight or any other lighting done in Chief. It just darkens some colors based on an internal algorithm we use so that it gives you a simulated shading affect. If you want actual lighting, you need to use render views. If you don't want Chief to do this, then you can modify your materials and turn off the Shading Contrast.
Oh, and I'm still trying to figure out how this feature somehow means we have a "third world printing engine". Maybe you could explain that a little better.Dermot Dempsey

Hmmm, interesting, I was unaware of this feature in chief (along with many others, I presume)
I always thought it was sun angles etc.
I would like to see chief have a setting, hopefully the default, that give us standard normal sunlight for all 4 elevations.
Most of the time I just want my 4 elevations to place in the permit set or show the client and I don't need to get all "fancy".
I want the ability to get "fancy" but normally don't need it.

Lew, I do see what you're saying, but I think Ron was wanting no lighting, no sun, just consistent colors. I haven't tried it out so I can't say for sure, but I think Dermot answered his question in his first post with the 0% shading contrast.

Ron,
Didn't Dermot provide an answer to you original question that was not a bug? Lew introduced a different critera that you seem to be shifting to.
