    leary of program updates

I am a little worried about program updates (out of inexperience) Update instructions contain phrases such as"....This means that files edited in this update will not be editable by earlier versions of X1." should I just forge ahead and update and assume all my prior work will be unaffected?

I would highly encourage you to get and work in the latest update for any of our products. The last update for X1 was released quite a while ago and has been used by many people so I think it has already proven itself. There were a lot of bugs that got fixed in the various X1 updates and a number of new features added. While it is true that once you start working in the update, you won't be able to open any saved plans in one of the older updated, I don't think you are risking anything.

I thought the only "hassle" between X1 updates was pre 11.3 update trying to read 11.3+ files ???

Not all updates included a file version change but at least one did. Depending on what version Peter is using currently, he may or may not need to worry about this.
