    floor heights amnesia

    hello again,
i have another question since it always annoys me. it's about setting floor and framing defaults for floor 1, then building a new floor 2 but somehow chief doesn't use the defaults from floor 1 to build the 2nd one and simply invents some numbers for height of particular elements. please see the attached pictures for what i'm getting. I would basically like to have a constant floor thickness 20 cm thick and constant ceiling height of 260 cm. how can i convince chief to use floor 1 defaults on every floor i build, how would you make such a template so i don't have to correct these values on every new plan.

    thanks in advance,
    ginna.

    Hi Ginna
Almost sure you have to set the floor defaults after the floor is built.
To bad a DBX doesn't pop up when adding a new floor like the foundation one does..

I agree we should be able to set the floor defaults prior to building the floor(s).

One solution for now is to create a blank template plan with 3 floors and a basement and set the defaults.

Then when starting a new plan delete floors if not needed and then start building the model.

The problem with this approach is that once floor1 is created you can't use the create new floor and foundation tool based on floor1.

You would have to use edit area - hold position

Will there be an improvement regarding this in the upcoming X2 release?

An ability to set whole floor levels clearly and concisely without switching through the current method of ceiling/sub floor and using room dbx to set heights, would be nice to see.

Ginna, the default ceiling height is 97-1/8". If you want to change the ceiling defaults, then when you're on the 1st. floor, dbl. click the floor childtool to the the floor default dbx. and then set your ceiling height. Once you create a 2nd floor, do the same. Be sure you have the information in the structure tab set correctly too. For your platforms to be set, open the framing childtool and set the floor thickness for each floor. Now everything should build the same.

    David,

I never change the floor or ceiling height in a room DBX unless I'm deviating from the default.

Learn to use the defaults and you will be a happy camper.

    Ginna,

If you want to have a profile plan with all this set up ahead of time you will need to make a profile plan with blank floors and set all the defaults you would like.

The problem with this approach is that once floor1 is created you can't use the create new floor and foundation tool based on floor1.
What he means is that it won't automatically generate the perimeter for you if the floor is already built.
