Dormers across planes... Can someone help me??

I have a 3/12 shed roof over a front porch that ties into an 8/12 porch over the house. How do you draw dormers that extend from the 8/12 pitch across to the 3/12 pitch?

When I move the auto-dormer across the plane I get the error message saying it can't do that. I understand the message so how to I work around it?
