    Sketchup Symbol Question

If I create a symbol in sketchum, say a door. How would I set it up so that once I bring it into Chief, I can give the vertical stiles a different material than the horizontal rails? Currently if I try to change the color of the door, the entire door takes the property instead of its parts and pieces.

    Thanks for your help,

    Mike

I'm going to take a shot in the dark on this one...but I would say that your
vertical stiles have to be one component in SU, and the horizontal stiles would
have to be another one....not two SEPERATE symbols, just two different
    components of the same symbol.

Like I said...it's a shot in the dark...but that's the only thing I can think of.

Assign different materials to the stiles, rails, panels, and moldings in sketchup. You will then be able to assign materials to materials for each separately when you bring it in as a symbol.

I find the easiest thing to do is just name a layer for each material then apply Chief material to each layer.
