    Back Clipped Cross Section

If I remember correctly, at one time I was able to select a back clipped cross section camera in plan view, open dbx and change the "clip surfaces within" distance. Am I missing something? I can not do that now.

However, if I open a brand new plan I can select the camera.

So it is in this plan I am working in. Again is there a setting I might be missing? Thanks

Are you on the same floor that the camera was created on? If not, you may not be able to select the camera.

If it's not on a locked layerset, try closing the program and re-opening. Has the camera been sent to layout? If so, can you access it through layout?

    Did not seem to work

    no it is not

I closed the program and I can now select the camera but the back clip is set to 1"
Yes the camera has been sent to layout
Yes I can open the view from layout and when I do the camera in plan view changes from green to blue and I cannot select a blue camera, I can only select green cameras. And as I said if I select the green camera, open dbx I cannot change backclip distance(it is set at 1")

You must have both views open to set the distance(plan and elevation). Then select the camera in the plan view. Set the back clip after distance.

...and the distance is measured from the camera line going out the direction the camera is facing.

Most do not realize that this can be set very precisely. Both position in plan and distance of view.

If you still have trouble with it please send it to me and I would be happy to take a look.

    Thank You Louis, that worked.
Summation: both plan view and the back clipped view must be open AND default layer for the plan has to be on. WOW! Now I can not only select camera but I can also specify the back clipped distance!

    Allen,

I don't think it needs a class...worlds shortest class. Hasn't Wendy covered this in her sexy elevation thing.

It might be a short class, but that is the thought of thing I would have taken you up on with your free offer before.

The tutorials have very little on that kind of thing, unless XI has more.

Wendy has the right idea doing actual work related classes, not just how to use Chief..
But how to use Chief to make money..

I'm getting better, but know that I need work on making layouts for other people to work from..Much easier to do them when I'm building the job.

    Allen,

This has been coved in just about every class I have taught over many years.

What do you want to know or did she cover it?

I have been using real working models in classes for years. I don't use any plans provided by Chief.

I doing a class now on plan work where all students are working on their plans.

    Hi Louis
My main problem with cross sections was I was trying to get to detailed..
Wendy did show a good way to make elevation views look much better.

I am hoping there is room for your users group meeting this time to..
Wouldn't take the spot of someone that lives there..
