    Hole In The Wall

I need to place old type radiators in exterior walls, is there a preferred way of doing this (cutting drywall and framing) without cutting through the exterior sheathing. I'v been using short doorways and patchening the exterior just for show. But now I need to do it for real. I created a symbol and was hoping there was a way when placed, it would do the cutting like when a door is placed. If this is possible......any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Doug

Maybe create a wall that's just sheathing.

Break the wall where you need the radiator placed, and change the broken
wall to be the new sheathing wall that you created.

    That's what I would do.

Actually I had thought of that and I know that would work, but it's to much work for the amount of times I use these things. Infact if the customer could afford new baseboard, thats what we would be using. Unfortunatley it's not in the budget. I'll stick to just attaching them to the wall surface for elevation purposes. I was just hoping there was a way to creat a symbol from my 3d model that would cut the opening.......place it and done. Framing cut, headers installed, ya know just like a window or door.
    Thanks thought just the same.

Hi Lew.....thats what I have been doing for presentations. Now it's time for contruction drawings and framing......not that it's imperitive that they work as if it were a door or window going in.....but It would be a nice feature to have available for us to have. Could be used for nooks builtins. etc.etc.

    Thanks Lew,

You could use a cross section camera and cut the wall to the right height and width, using the break tool. Also a door or window would work with no frame or sash used.

How thick is the real wall and how is it built behind it?
It depends on exactly what you want it to look like..

You could use a cased opening, frame the walls and then delete the cased opening..

Or edit the framing in the wall detail..

Make the symbol skinnier and fake it..

Do you need to really show that? Is it existing that will not be touched?

I just more questions than answers today
