    real life stairs

    Hello,

just wondering how to do these lovely stairs to get the proper as built? I started with a "room" from the bottom and a "deck" area on top. But how do I get the different riser heights?

    That's where the fun starts!

you have different risers and different treads...and, they are nice.

i would use landings...custom landings. (they're in the stair child too menu). can't do it using "stairs"...unless you use a different stair for each tread/riser...and then combine them - but I think landings and using the transform/replicate tool to reproduce them along the axis.

they work just like a slab or counter....

    Rudi,
Another option (since there's no nosing or railing) would be to draw a polyline solid drawn in elevation & give it the proper "depth"- width of the steps.
That would probably be the fastest/easiest.
    IMO

I would make a symbol for the stairs..
Make a platform at 37 1/2" high and take out the (D)that keeps it at that height..
4 steps will give you 7.5" steps..

Symbol rather than stairs is so they will not keep jumping in size on you..

I agree...that's probably a better solution. You know the dimensions of each tread and riser...so you could make a polyline...drawn in an elevation view to the perimeter outline of the existing stair...then convert to a solid and set the thickness to equal the width of the stair...

    how about that

    Thanks for all the replies,

that's what it looks right now with a Poly solid. Looks good in overview but the treads are not showing in planview. How can I achieve that? Am I too worried ?

in plan view...just use can lines.

then, block everything together, and put it on the stairs & landings layer.

    (that's what I would do)

    Rudi:

Maybe use real stairs for the plan view and place on a new layer so they can be turned off for the 3D views ???

Lew...his treads are all different widths...can't do that with "real" stairs.

I usually do what Chris does (cad lines) however you could use "convert to symbol" and your symbol will display a nice plan view of the tread lines.

He doesn't say the treads are different, the bottom risers are.
They can be made with solids/slabs..
I think the symbol is best because the stairs will snap to them. Not sure because I didn't try..

    Chris:

I caught that, and that's why the "fussing" for 3D, does it matter for the plan view ???

If it does then make a cad detail showing the "as-built" steps with the correct dims and don't worry about it matching in the plan view ???

    Just a thought

I do what it takes to make the client happy and the permit granted

The builders and clients don't want to pay for more than that.

I'm hoping to find a client someday that wants everything done in detail. But all I hear is keep it simple, keep the cost down.
