"fluffy" hedge and railing
it's possible to make "bushy railing" like this?

You could use a solid fence - not a railing, but a fence, so that it locks to the terrain...set the thicknesses to 18"-24" or so and assign a grassy material to all the surfaces...then adjust the x & y scaling in the render tab for the material to make it less "uniform".
You can play around with different mouldings as a railing too - tweaking the heights and widths of the individual parts of the "fence" to make a more rounded hedge look....Last edited by ChiefChris; 07-14-2008 at 05:00 AM.

That could be done with a moulding polyline....the stone part of that wall would be a fence.
Also - if you play around with the railing moulding on a "fence"...you could createa a rounded hedge edge.

Use the 3d plants and Ctrl drag them on top of a stone wall in plan view..
You will have to test what plant works best and maybe resize them..
Nice looking picture of a wall you posted.........

Getting the leaves to extend past the edge of something like a polyline solid is a problem when you apply a texture to a uniform surface. You could use a polyline solid drawn in section/elevation view to get a shape with rounded corners.
I also would try making the hedge by drawing a custom molding in the shape of the hedge you want and adding it to the "handrail" part of the library. Then place a very short rail where you want the hedge and add the custom handrail shape. Don't have time to try it but it should work.
You cold also draw half the hedge as a custom molding and apply that to both sides of a 3D molding line or polyline.
I would think there is a better texture than grass to use for the hedge material. Perhaps a ground cover texture.Larry

This attached image is done with only a fence/railing...following the terrain.
adjust the handrail profile to an elliptical one...set the width to wider than the "fence" and taller than the "fence...
set the newels the width and height of the fence...if you want them to show.and assign materials...

See if you like this.
If you want a wall, you can add a primitive solid and place it in the center of the hedge and change the width, height and / or depth of the hedge as you wish...same with railing.

I tried making the "fluffy hedge" in chief but without success. I think your image was made in max or viz using an advance feature called displacement (enhanced bump map application) see image.

There have been really good threads about using bump maps.
