Window schedules
Hoping this is me..
Trying to put a custom window label(test window)..
When I first do the schedule it shows up..Some times I can move the window label next to the window and it switches places with being in plan or in the schedule,
But if I try and drag the schedule to where I want it,get the shape label in both places..
Am I doing it wrong?.........

Allen, try putting the window schedule in a cad detail. See if that helps and stays consistant. That is where I keep all schedules.
BTW, I really think it shouldn't matter. I just don't like to clutter the plan view with stuff I can put in a cad detail.Last edited by Tommy Blair; 06-15-2008 at 08:47 AM.

I would only keep one schedule of each...not two of the same.

Thanks
It was just one window I wanted to add a note to..
Still would like to know if this is a bug or me..
Think if you check "specify label" you should get a custom one...........

Allen,
I put my schedules in a cad detail. Your "test" window changed because you changed the size. Chief likes to blow away certain pieces of info with any size change - particularly things that would almost certainly change if you changed the size, like the label. So this is Chief acting the way it was designed. If it didn't do this, there's a big downside - that the door be one size and the label orders another.
I keep my schedules in a cad detail. I was told eons ago by tech support that this would speed up performance, and it does seem to do that.
I generally keep my window schedules "live" because I don't have to edit that often.
I copy my door schedules and drop the new one right next to the old one, in the cad detail. Then I convert the new one to text. I edit the text version, but keep the original "live" schedule right beside it, because it helps me do a quick QC to make sure I didn't change something and forget. You also lose your door symbols if you delete the door schedule - so keeping a "live" one there preserves those.
When I send to layout, I simply have only the version I want showing. For me, that's a live window schedule and a text door schedule.
Why door schedules to text? Because to me the description should not say "6 panel oak (r)" or something equally incomplete and mysterious to a builder, but more like "interior hinged"... and because a pair of hinged doors still does not list in a way that would get the correct doors ordered.Wendy Lee Welton

Tommy,
yes, I do the same. I copy the door schedule because I can't get all pairs to read correctly. A door that is 36" overall, but is a pair, is not an 18" door. It's a (2) 18" door or something that tells the contractor what to buy. I do my changes to "description" via the components.
Allen,
Sorry - hadn't caught that you moved the schedule. And I thought I saw two different window sizes, but now see that I was mistaken.
So, no - moving the schedule should not blow away your custom label. That does sound like a bug. If you can reproduce it, I suggest you send it in.Last edited by WendyWelton; 06-15-2008 at 12:05 PM.

And Allen,
I've found custom labels to be woefully deficient at the present time. I gave up on them awhile ago. I'm hoping they come back to schedules again for X2. For now, my advise is to not put a whole lot of time into that adventure. Unless, of course, you're up for re-reporting what's wrong!Wendy Lee Welton

Hi Wendy
Glad I didn't get mad at you about the resize thing ..Or at least didn't type out bad words ...
It was just for one window that she wanted to match the other one(existing) in the front of the house.I didn't measure them and just wanted
"match existing windows" as the label so when ordering,if I didn't have the right size when printing, wrong one will not get ordered..
Hope your enjoying the day with your Dad..Tell him I said hi..
It can be recreated in a small plan for me...........

Schedule question.
Does the schedule show how thick the walls are?Or is there a box I am missing that should be check for that?
2x6 walls.Wondering is they usually go by the print or just the schedule when ordering...........
