    horizontal balusters

How do you create horizontal balusters on a stairway (balusters that are parallel to the stairs/landings and perpendicular to the newels)?

It isn't possible to have "horizontal" balusters parallel to the stairs. If you want railings in addition to the top railing parallel with the stairs you'll have to custom build those. There have been many posts on this topic recently .... search the forum and you should get some ideas on how to go about it. One thing to keep in mind is what the code spacing requirements are for openings in stairs railings for your area. If your stairs design doesn't include something like skirt boards on the side, then the bottom railing (parallel to stairs) will need to be very close to the tops of the nosing for each tread so that the triangular area formed by the tread and the riser doesn't result in a dimension that exceeds code requirements. That is probably a good reason why more stairs are built with vertical balusters as opposed to what you want to do. Nevertheless, I see lots of stairs designed with many different materials and styles that don't have vertical balusters so it seems obvious that there are many ways to build stairs railings that meet code requirements.

Thanks for your input. That's a good point about the lower opening height.

If you can show a pic of what you want I will see if I can explain a way to do it that you will be able to understand - assuming it's even possible. Otherwise, you are just wasting our time.

You do not have to have SSA or manufacturer catalogs to do horiz. railings in X5. You now have a half wall you can use when made a railing with panels and follow stairs. This tool doesn't work for all situations though. You can do it manually in all versions starting I believe in V10.
