Drawing pallets?
I purchased CA early this year to do free-lance drafting from home, when I was offered a job drawing plans for a new development. My most recent job offer, however, is drawing simple pallets, which I hate to turn down, because it should be several months of work and pretty easy $. I know this is not the type of work that CA is designed for, but I hate not to use the software I have!
I tried using floor framing, but it does not show up in layout view, even when I made the layer "visible." Then I tried drawing with primitives, but the pieces are difficult to manipulate and will not dimension properly.
Any suggestions?

It should show up, my partner does the framing for our projects and it shows very nicely ???
You could also just use cad lines to make a board and then transform/replicate to make many copies. You should be able to make the various component pieces of a pallet and place them in the library and then use them to construct cad details as needed.
Do you have the tutorials ? If not, get the cad tutorials or use chief's framing tools and you can do the edits in 2D or 3D for the framing.

Is this what you mean?
I did this in Sketchup but it can be done in Chief or you can do this in any number of free cad programs, I suggest Progcad.
This zip. file is a Sketchup file, you should be able to bring it into X-1. If not I can make it another type.

Yes, Andy, this is what I need, but I need to show it in top and relevant side views, instead of, or in addition to, the isometric view. I didn't mention that I could only get it to show up in the framing overview, and then it doesn't look like the runners are lined up with the top boards. When I select any other camera view I just get a blank page.

I need to show it in top and relevant side views
You should be able to rotate the framing view and show as needed
You should also be able to view in vector view and look at from top or sides or bottom etc

And for those of us who don't have a value to upgrading yet:
PalletV10.zip
DWG with segregated layers for direction and end grain. I leave it up to you to import via symbol wizard.
Take care,
John S.
P.S. Chief is still a great program/company, and I'll update when I'm not mired in schoolwork!
