images in layout

Ever since i installed X.14, when i open my layouts that have an image imbedded in it...the image is gone, i have re-import it...

Very frustrating. I didnt have to do that before X.14.

What is the file extension of the images. I have had some problems with Tif. file extensions myself

Do you keep your images and plan files in the same folder? I do and don't have this problem. It sounds like a linking issue.

I keep my drawings in seperate folders, the image lives in a folder with my template files. I've never had this issue before X.14 The image is a .jpeg

Yes, it does sound like a linking issue...but why? What changed between X1.3 and X.14 i wonder...

Nothing changed about this situaton that I know of. I would never recommmend keeping plan files in different folders once you start a layout. I keep all associated files and images in one job folder. No problems.

Trying to keep this post alive here...

Is anyone else having this issue with X1? I realize that some of you do not do things the same way as me; i keep the image file saved in a "seed" directory, which i use as my dew drawings template. This has always worked for me in the past, the image has always stayed "linked" but now...it doesnt seem to be working.

The location has not changed, and everything else is going through alright...What am i supposed to do? Copy the image 700 - 800 times into each new drawing that gets created each year? That hardly seems practical and/or efficient. CA should be able to maintain its "link" to an image file located in a local subfolder, it always has for me in the past...

I have only done a couple of layouts so far in X1 but it hasn't been an issue for me.

But I have my images in a sub-folder within my folder for that project and I save the images in the plan
as I need to send the plan and layout to my partner and It's a pain having to remember to send the images
also.

Our logo and the client's logo are stored eleswhere tho and the links are maintained ???

I would need to do some research here to see if anything changed. The logic used to be as follows:

1) Look in the current library folder at the same relative path to the program for the image.

2) Look in the folder that the plan or layout is in.

3) Look at the absolute path for the image where it was originally stored.

4) Search through all sub folders of the plan or layout.

5) Search through all the library folders.

In your case is seems like you were relying on step 3. This is easy to break, by changing drive letters, etc. For X1.3 we did change the directory from where we load template files. As long as your old location remained intact things should still work, but if the old location were deleted, that would break things.

Another option, especially for your layout templates is to embed the picture in the template file itself. I would recommend this method for templates as there is no need to worry about keeping the image file in the right location. The option for this is in the picture dialog box.

I link to both plans files and image files in other folders all the time and have not had problems in X1.4. I use a Chief layout file to do my brochures and other marketing materials and don't want to clog up my data drive with multiple copies of large image files.

For image files it always gives me a message saying it can't find it, I hit "cancel" and it always displays the image anyway. It did this in Chief 10 also.

I guess this way of file management will work for some. I don't really think it's the best. I like to do things in a very safe way with no errors if possible. I guess you know why you're getting that error Wendy. If you have several people looking at the plan and layout from different areas and computers (not networked), then you will probably have linking problems with the layout by not keeping everything in one main folder. Just a comment.

This may fix things for anything new i draw from today forward...not sure about all my old plans though...i'll play around with it though.
