Showing Floor Patterns
Here is a procedure to allow the display of flooring patterns in your floorplan view without drawing any CAD.
1. Assign floor patterns in the materials tab of the room definition dbx. Shift the patterns in the X or Y direction by adjusting the origin in the pattern tab.
2. Generate a “Vector Floor Overview” camera, and then select “Top View”. You should see your floor patterns.
3. Select ”Cad Detail From View”. Think of this command as a snap shot of your screen, with the result stored in a 2D Cad Detail Window.
4. Now turn off “Default Cad Layer Lines”, leaving only the floor pattern lines showing. Block these patterns and assign the block to a new layer called “Floor Patterns” change the color to gray, and select "Back Group".
5. Copy the block, then return to the plan window and click “Paste Hold Position”. Floor patterns can now be turned on or off with the “Floor Patterns” layer. (Not all the lines are showing on this "screen capture".)
NOTES:
1. If advanced deck framing was used as in this example, it must be selected in the Cad Detail and assigned to the Default Cad Layer Patterns layer before turning off Default Cad Layer Lines.
2. Countertop patterns may project outside of the base cabinet face. This is a result of the overview camera seeing the full countertop including the overhang. We could select these overhang lines and add them to the Default Cad Layer Patterns layer as well. Alternatively, we could set the default countertop O/H to 0” before starting as I did here.Rob Fisher

Rob,
Great tip! I've always used swatches of flooring to indicate type of and direction, but wasn't fond of too much clutter on plans. However, since I've discovered that everything coming out of my printers is now gray scale with my conversion to X1, I'll be inclined to give it a try.
Thanks,
Kelly

I have to admit something....why would you not just turn on the room fill patterns and set the color to light gray?
Why all the extra steps? I am surly missing something!Joey R. Martin, aibd, cgp, cga, caps

I may be wrong but isn't Rob's method useful to show floor pattern direction ?
I can also see where you could have multiple floor patterns on separate layers and then easily switch between the various floor patterns ?
Maybe I missed the boat ???

I believe the "cabinet fill" you are referring to is the counter top pattern.

That being the case I'm not sure that Rod's method wouldn't be quicker than going back and turning on plan fill as needed.
So good tip to you too Joey!

Lew,
Interesting, how do you take out the slope ceiling part of the room that falls below the code - habitable room height of 7'.
I bring this point up because I have always felt that one should not have to pay property taxes on floor footage that falls out of the habitable range, not to mention paying for a permit based on sq.ft.

Kelly:
set the room(s) ceiling height to 6' 8" and then Chief will create "wall beams" I place invisible walls over the "wall beams" and then set the ceiling hights back as needed.
I would like Chief to do this automagically for us
