Under the stairs - 3 problems

    1. Little problem with my stairs, actually beneath them. As you see on the picture atached this are U-turn stairs. I need to close hole by extending wall beneath but when I do that winders for stairs don't seems to work.
    2. I have this hole on stairs (from this side I have put invisible wall for winders to work correctly) and it seems this anomaly starts where wall underneath stairs stops - or it is by chance.
    3. How to hide stairs but to have room beneath to the wall under stairs?

    Thanks in advance

    Is this what you want?
I used no fill on the stairs so you can see the walls under them..

No Allen, this is not what I need. Here is my plan view. Stairs are U shape and need to extend wall between stairs to the wall up. But when I do that stairs winders don't work ans stairs don't 'catch' walls (second picture).

Those stairs wouldn't meet code in Canada. Does your code allow more than one set of winders in a single flight?

    Roman:

Attached is something I tried ... basically just enclosing the winder area of the stairs. When doing it this way, for some reason, X1 doesn't want the winder stairs to extend all the way to the walls as they should. I am not sure how much the the stairs you want enclosed underneath .... if you enclose the whole area under the stairs where it makes the connection to the next story, I think everything would display OK. Maybe this is one you might need some tech support help on???

    Hi Curt
What happens when you check "winders"?
For me,the top steps went all the way across= 8' wide +/_
    In 10 they worked fine..

    Allen:

I had that happen as well ... I think I just space barred or refreshed or closed a view and they displayed properly in plan again. In the plan view I show, I unchecked winders, closed the dbx, reopened the stairs dbx, recheck winders and the stairs wouldn't wind properly as shown. So, I am not sure what the solution to properly displaying the winder stairs in plan view is .... ??? .... short of enclosing the whole underside of the upper section.

I'm not sure if this is the issue, but winders don't work when there is an additional room under the stair.

    They just don't work right..
I spent a good week watching Louis's winder tutorial and trying different stair configurations and think I am very good at doing stairs..
They just are not as good in X1.

Might be time to have a way to make stairs as a symbol to place in the plan..

    Louis:

That very well might be the problem. I built a winder a slightly different way, and still U shaped, and let the stairs feature fill in under the lower side of the stairs and it properly displayed the winders. I might have to play with that a little more and see what else happens with slightly different scenarios. [but you have probably done that already ...].

Allen: Can you make a stairs symbol that will add steps if the length gets longer? Or are you talking custom, specific specifications for stairs symbol applications?

A custom, specific specifications for stairs symbol applications.
Separate, unless they can build it into Chief..
I'm not a programmer..No idea how to do it..
Stairs can easily be symbols rather than part of Chief.
We might lose the auto stairwell, but they need to be adjusted any way.

    I got this from Roman

"This get me thinking... Now, what i have done is this: first i was extend wall in the middle (between lower an upper stair section) to the next wall up. Then I have break wall right where this wall goes for winder stairs (to the middle section of stairs). In dbx of wall that is beneath stair I have checked 'No room def.' That way is no room under stairs and i have winder stairs. "

    He said he can't post...
