Ya, but let them send it out before it's ready, with another problem and everybody will say.

I would like more incremental patches as they fix things or on the fly. It would just make everyone happier. We won't have to wait for everything to be completed.

X1.4 should be ready very soon (but not today). The development team has completed most of the coding changes that we wanted in this update and have already been working on some of the less important things (and things that we did not find until later) for the next update, X1.5. The update is still in testing's hands and until they give it their stamp of approval, we will not send it out.

Putting out an update is a very complicated process because there are so many different pieces that need to be assembled and tested. It is very similar to putting out the original version of the program because we also create a new "gold master" of the DVD so that we can always use the newest version when we run out and need to order new ones. We are still trying to fully automate and streamline this process because everytime we add a new product this becomes even more complicated. This is exactly what happened and part of the reason that X1.4 has taken so long. We are also releasing a brand new Home Designer product based on the X1 technology later this month.

This update will definitely be worth the wait because there are going to be some really nice improvements. Lots of good bug fixes plus a few new features that I think will be very useful to some people. And the best part is that it is totally free.

    New - Architectural Home Designer
Yes, in fact there will be a new product out by the end of January. It will be BH&G Architectural Home Designer. The MSRP will be $199. As the date gets closer, we'll post more information on that product - until then, here's a few of the new features:

-Improved Material Painter® Tool with Material Definition – enhanced control of material appearance, and now change the color of a material simply and easily – like changing the color of siding, roofing or other materials

-A New Library Render preview – browse the library items with a full 3D preview before you place them in your design

-A New User Interface with both Drop-Down toolbars and the classic parent-child toolbars

    and....

    - A New Virtual Walk-Thru Tool – Draw Your Record Line to Automatically Generate

    More to come.

You're making me feel like baking!

Pat - He dropped the hint about the walk-throughs on this forum awhile ago - so I'm guessing it will be in Chief, not just BH&G. I hope so!

I know this all sounds pretty cool but I do hope they're fixing alot of basic problems too that have been mentioned before. I don't want to go into it. Too much to think about.

As a general rule, when we add any features to any of our lower end products we try to add them to all of the more expensive products. The few exceptions to this rule are when we add Better Homes and Gardens branded content to our consumer products (such as the Design Planning Center and Design Inspiration Gallery).

So the short answer is that all of the new features that Scott mentioned will also be in the X1.4 update plus some more that are just for Chief Architect. I won't get into any of the details until the update is actually released.

But we are working on the full scale HOLOGRAPHIC rendering.
Is the new release compatible with X1?
