    Andy,

You and I should have coffee. Would love to share thoughts.

Anyway, as I just replied to Val, yes I send them to cad first. More because I am able to re-shoot and re-label an elevation quickly if I need to, and sending the live view just isn't compatible with me for some reason. I also like the control and speed I have with a cad view that I don't have with a live view.

I never auto-detail. I have yet to find that X1 knows more than I do. Before I cut my sections, I do all the framing and then send to cad and align the lineweights and colors properly and clean things up. There are still some strays and blips, but X1 is miles better than V10, especially with layer/lineweight control.

As far as the 3D views, same thing as elevations. Cad view, globally match linecolor/weight to layer and remove some strays. I will say this - for whatever reason, the 3D views will generate to CAD missing a few lines or line segments. I don't know why, but I always have a few strays to connect.

    BTW - Wendy,
As we are both Acad converts, I think the major difference between the two is that the keyboard and mouse work as partners in Acad, where in X1 they are clearly alternative devices. X1 is ok, but I still can't figure out why they decided "w" should be for line and "y" should be for text. If CA could make these user-definable, what a boost to productivity it would be

The keyboard short cuts are kind of a hodge podge that wasn't planned out from the beginning. They need to be overhauled. Or better yet, maybe we could put in the ability for you to create your own shortcuts.

This would be terrific, but at the very least, if you can make shortcuts for almost all of the commands, we can remap them with Quickeys or other programs. A big frustration now is that many commands don't have a shortcut AT ALL!

Yep - it's like being pecked to death by ducks.

User definable shortcuts - oh please yes - I'll even give up chocolate!

I wrote code in 1984 to make my Sinclair 100 - so I used to be a programmer! So I can say with authority how easy it is to program Chief features! ;-)

    Rich,

Just wanted to say that I thought your plans were very well done, too! Chief would do well to use these for an example. (But how did you get away with that door swing in the garage? )

Andy, you should know better than to give me this kind of encouragement! Now I really know I AM HAVING SOME EFFECT!

P.S. It's pick "nits" not "knits", unless you're talking about sweaters.

P.S.S., I also wanted to say I had a look at those posted drawings and agree they are very nice. I am looking forward to some of the line weight presets I have bookmarked from one of Wendy's posts to try and get some decent looking "live" elevations when the new computer finally gets here and I delve into X1 more.

All this AutoCAD discussion always kind of fascinates me because I have literally never used anything but Chief to do CAD.

You did get me George. Good on ya, mate! It's all good as far as my relentless pursuit of preserving the English language is concerned. At least people are PAYING ATTENTION NOW. Should have just ignored me, now you've emboldened the English terrorist.

Fifth grade, or high school? I made it through my sophmore year and quit high school, 41 years ago. Life has been a great educator.

Yes, one of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite design instructors in college (not particularly original but I still remember him saying it)- "Get an education in spite of this place!"
