X1 Centering Windows Still Doesn't Work For Me?

Am I the only one having problems with the centering tool? Seems I can only get it to work about 20% of the time. I never had this problem with past versions, so now I'm wondering if I need to load my X1 again.

    Thanks very much for considering.

    Same for me.
It seems that sometimes when I click the Center tool, I get the double headed arrow cursor - in these cases, the window centres OK.
But sometimes (more often than not) when I click the Center tool, I don't get the double headed arrow cursor - in these cases the Center tool doesn't get activated and hence won't work.
Could it be a metric thing? I am using metric.

I'm assuming we are talking about the center along room edge tool. Please note that it is room oriented not wall oriented. It has always been this way, but we extended it to be more flexible in that it will now center things besides openings.

There are several things that can go wrong.

    1) If you click on the wall it won't work as that is ambiguous.
    2) If you don't have room definition, it won't work.
    3) If you click too close to the corner of the room you may find that it thinks you want to center along a different edge of the room.

To use this tool click near the center of the edge of the room you want to center along. Click close to the wall, but not on it. If that doesn't work as expected, see if you can select the room. If you can't select the room then there may be an issue with room definition.

    Cool

    Doug,
What about centering a window over a sink or toilet or tub?I seem to remember having that option at one time but I can't get it to work in x1.Not having any problem with centering in a room though.

That should still work by clicking on the sink/cabinet. I will have to look at that case again to verify.

Doug,Just tryed again. The window over the sink in the plan I am now working on will work.It is a twinn made from two singles and blocked. The window in the bath will not center over the toilet. There is a tub on the wall to the left and this may be effecting this .Will remove the tub and try again.
    Thanks,Have a great day,Ken

I believe this feature only ever worked on sinks. Yeah, I know it's lame, but I didn't have time to extend that to a more general case.

The biggest problem I have seen with the centering tool is that people mistakenly click on the wall they are trying to center the window on.

This, as Doug explained, is ambiguous in many situations and not really the correct way to use the tool. You normally need to click in the room you want to center the window in and remember that the outside is also a "room" by Chief definitions.

I think in the past some of our trainers used to teach people to click on the wall and this caused some confusion.

For Zowie, Chuck, and Glenn, if clicking in the room near the wall the window is in still does not properly center the window, then please report this to tech support as a bug. Be sure and inlcude your plan you are using and show in the plan where you clicked with some kind of marker and then we will look into this more.

I used to click the wall before watching the tutorial..
You can shift select more than one door or window and center that block..Very handy for garage doors..Or grouping windows in a bump out..

    Dermot,

I suggest that you change the error message when the operator clicks on the wall and centering doesn't work.

The message says "When centering along the edge of a room, you need to click on one or the other side of the wall that defines the room edge. No centering will be done."

This implies to me that you need to click ON the the wall edge - one side of the wall or the other.

I think you also need to change the Help file which says:
"Click the wall that contains the door to center it along that wall."

The Help Database Article number 822 is excellent in explaining the operation of the tool.
