    Help needed with courtyard design...

Hello, all. Need help with a simple courtyard design, just trying to get the hang of it. Must be missing something. See attached pic. Simple square shaped house (not my eventual design), with a courtyard in the middle. For some reason, CA wants to put a roo over the courtyard area, and I've defined as a 'courtyard' with no ceiling/roof. Can't figure out why CA puts a ceiling/roof over it. HELP.

    Muchos thnx

BTW, I'm using CA 9, and am somewhat of a beginner with CA.

is that an auto build roof?
i learnt early on that the auto build roofs do not do what i want them to.
my advice is do manual roofs. You have complete control over where the roofs go, and didn't take very long to learn how to do them.

What sean83 said has its place but not for a beginning user. What you want to do is to open the Room Dialog" box for the "Courtyard" go to its "Structure" tab and uncheck "Roof over this room" and "Ceiling over this room" then rebuild roofs. That should get you going.

I agree with Mr. Shaker, try that; only then would I fall back on building manual roof planes.

    Roz,

ash's solution works. Invisible wall connecting court to main outside wall.

    David,

the auto build roofs gave me grief with my first couple houses i did in chief, so i learnt the manual way using the videos and manual, and i still consider myself a beginner

for clarification the invisible wall can connect to interior walls also, which indirectly connect to exterior wall.

Doesn't work for me if there are other rooms between the roofless Court center and the exterior walls, even if my invisible wall connection "breaks" through wall barriers in the path to connect Court to a Perimeter wall
