Garage doors and foundation?
I was looking through the posts on foundation cutouts for garage doors and found most results were work arounds.
Would the following work:
1. Create a elevation view of the foundation; showing the location of the garage doors and exit door.
2. using a polyline, mark the location for the cutouts on the foundation.
3. use the Subtract edit tool, to create the cutouts.
Thanks for your help. Bob, X1.3

No - it would not. The foundation is not a solid, it's a smart object type.
This works like a charm:
1 - main floor - select garage doors - Ctrl-C (or copy)
2 - go to basement - Ctrl-Alt-V (or Paste/Hold Position)
3 - take an elevation view and drag to exactly match the doors on the floor above.
4 - select garage doors in basement, change to "doorway" and select "omit casing" (or whatever that's called - I'm defragging my X1 machines and can't look).
This puts a cutout of the exact right size in the exact right spot. If you want to dimension to a larger masonry RO, just select "doorways" in basement and enlarge as needed.
Yes, it's a workaround. But, it's fast, easy and it works.Wendy Lee Welton

I wrote code in 1984 to make my Sinclair 100 - so I used to be a programmer! So I can say with authority how easy it is to program Chief features! ;-)

Thanks for the reply Wendy. I have already printed it out and placed it in my cook book.
I found that I could print just one post in a list of posts, by selecting the number in the upper right hand corner of the post. This opens a View Single Post window. Just RMB in the window, select print. I thought I would post this information for those that are not aware of this ability. Bob X1.3

Now wait a minute, I do my foundation by deriving it from the exterior walls, if there is a stem wall in the garage for a minute no big deal. Then I create an interior wall for the garage to the house with the entry door.
I then call the garage a garage in the rooms dialog box. This gives it a slab at about the right height and drops the garage to the right height. out a garage door in the ext. wall, make it the right size and it all works as it should no problems.
I may have to enter the dbx for the garage on the main floor and adjust heihgts and whatnot to the needed figures.
Works great, I hope this helps, let me know.

I too simply call the room GARAGE, set the floor height (say -12" or so) THEN BUILD FOUNDATION...important to build the foundation AFTER you call the room garage, AND set the floor height. Then just add the doors, places cutouts automatically.....no workarouns needed!?!?!?!?!?!.....

Bob,
Thanks for the tip on printing just a single post. Now I will start my own "cook book"
