V10 Tips And Tricks

After contemplating this on and off for a while (since the release of X1) I have been spurred into action by Pat ( http://www.chieftalk.com/showthread.php?t=29397 )
I think it is appropriate to start a thread that is dedicated to sharing useful information, tips and tricks that have been gained by trial and error and solutions found by asking on this forum.
I hope the forum moderators find it fit to dedicate a forum to each of V10 Tips and Tricks and X1 Tips and Tricks.
The intent is to provide a place where users (new and experienced) can find instructions and solutions that are either: not in the manual, not obvious, great time savers, workarounds to achieve a particular result (perhaps thought not possible) or simply a summary of a solution that has been reached by asking questions in other parts of the forum.
RULES OF ENGAGEMENT:
Solutions only, please - No problems.
This thread is intended as a depository of solutions to common and unusual problems, but NOT as a place to ask questions.
If everybody keeps it that way it will work well.
As I am still on V10, I'll leave the X1 to others.
Thank you all.
Please feel free to chip in with your contributions

I will start with the basics
They may seem obvious, but judging by many of the questions lodged on the forum, perhaps they are not.
1. Look at what the manual has to say and check out the videos. There is a LOT to be learnt from the videos that is not in the manual.
2. Check out Chief Support http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/
Anything from a FAQ section to a direct pone number and personalised training
3. Keep a close eye on Chieftalk. This is the best forum I have come across, ever.
4. There are a number of other collections of useful information.

Generate new cad block for a symbol - METRIC ONLY

In many instances you may want to generate a new cad block for a symbol that has been altered (rotated on y axis, resized around a stretch plane etc)
If you are in a metric plan, the size of the cad block generated in plan will be wrong (by factor of 2.5).
Solution:
Place the symbol in a plan and adjust size, orientation etc to what you want.
Once you have the 3d parameters the way you want them, add the symbol to your library.
Now select and open the symbol in your library.
Go to "2d block" tab and click "generate block" and OK.

Imperial users should not need to go through this process, as they can generate correctly sized symbol in plan.
Alternative solution referred to in this thread, post 39
http://www.chieftalk.com/showthread....2&goto=newpost

I believe this process will also apply to X1 metric users, as the incorrect cad block sizing issue is carried through to X1 (Trial version anyway)

Hello Peter,

I think that is a great idea too. A separate forum for all versions. It is also a very positive way to influence the development of the product. No problems, just solutions.

Yes this is a good idea, especially for people using the other versions still like me. I agree with the others about solutions and not problems...

Tips for handle placement on cabinets.
(Experienced users will already know this)
Tip 1
If you want a component of a cabinet to have no handles, specify it as "cutting board"
Tip 2
If you want drawer handles to be a fixed distance from drawer tops, specify them as doors.
The sample below is made of: the right hand cabinet as cutting board, 2 drawers and door. The left hand cabinet is cutting board and double doors

I believe that all these are more easily controlled in X1
