window that intersects spandrel zone?
In the attached image my window is in a hallway and along a wall with a stair run. The window that seems to have the floor framing obscuring the top half of it has a head ht. of 105.5" so this is where the floor framing would be if there was a floor in that area but there is no floor and the area on the second floor where this occurs is defined as an "open to below" room.
Is there a trick to getting this wall to understand that it is balloon framed?

Never mind. I was able to move the upper wall vertically and then break the wall to pull a small section down to cover a hole created by moving the wall up.
I still would like to know if there is a way to not have the spandrel area of the wall not show if it does not exist.alan lehman - Lehman Design Studio - Carmel, CA

on the wall dbx there is a setting on the right side for "balloon framing".
Try some searches as this was discussed recently and there was another method also.

Thanks for the reply.
I should have stated what my settings on the wall dbx were. I do have "balloon through ceiling" and "go through floor platform" checked on. On the Roof tab I checked "High shed..." .

Looks like chief is seeing the ceiling; if you make the room above "open below" it should frame properly.
I just duplicated your settings and it framed properly on my computer without making it "open below"Last edited by billemery; 08-22-2007 at 08:06 AM.
