Ghost or Phantom images
I have a portion of a stairway object as well as a portion of a wall that I cannot select or delete. They shows up differently on each floor, as well as floors they were never on. If I go to an "all-off" layer set, the items are still there.
Using X-1. I have had similar problems in the past with other versions, but have always found some way to finally select the item and delete it.
The stair components look slightly irregular. The wall components look fine. I have tried various tools to select them, but thus far all has been to no avail.
Any suggestions

Are you on the correct floor ?
For example, stairs drawn from foor 1 - 2 are selectable on floor 1 but not on floor 2.
Also, interior stairs are suppose to be drawn from lower floor to upper floor. However, they can be drawn upper to lower by holding the shift key so you would need to go to the upper floor to be able to select the stairs.

Thanks Lew:
As I indicated they show on every floor (foundation, 1,2 & 3rd floors) albiet different portions show on each floor(ie: one line of the wall on one floor, the fill on another, the whole wall on yet another---different treads show on different floors). They show this way with all layers turned off. They are not selectable on any floor---not with the select tool, wall tool etc.
They print out. There are and have been no camera views taken during the entire design process. With the exception of a few fixtures, the walls and this particular portion of the stairway, everything has been drawn in cad. It seem in the past the problem seemed to be associated with the camera views, but I cannot remember for certain. It only occurred a few times and that was a couple of years ago.

Are the layers locked ?
Maybe you should contact tech support ?

This definately sounds like one for tech support. This is a new one to me. The fact that they still show when all layers are turned off is what I think makes it a definate Idaho thing.Wendy Lee Welton

I wrote code in 1984 to make my Sinclair 100 - so I used to be a programmer! So I can say with authority how easy it is to program Chief features! ;-)

No layers are locked. I have "discovered" that this came about when I "built" a new floor. In this case it was the foundation. I deleted the foundation (no effect) closed the program, reopened it and voila no ghost images. I rebuilt the foundation---same ghost images. Closed and reopened the program, without deleting the new foundation---no ghost images.
So there--!

I have reported it to "Idaho". The closing and reopening seems to have resolved the matter as the images have not reappeared since I have been working on the plan. I did try adding a 4th floor----same result (images slightly different, but basically the same)

Huh. It seems like closing and reopening must fix several things. Food for thought. I wonder if they could put a childtool to close and reopen?? Just kidding.

Gary, I had a problem yesterday about auto dim. lines not wanting to go away even if the layer was turned off. Closing Chief completely and reopening fixed it for the time. Try closing and reopening.

Scott,
Chief Architect headquarters are in Idaho. Anything we don't like, we just say they do things "a little differently" in Idaho. Unwanted piece of wall sticking up in the air? Idaho Chimney. Gaps in roof planes? Idaho air conditioning. User error? "Idaho made me do it".
Gary,
From what you describe, this is a definate 200% perfect candidate for the nice people in Idaho to figure out.
Tommy,
I get that occasionally also. It appears to be annoying but harmless, or should I say harmless, but still annoying. I'm pretty sure I heard that they were on that one. If you can reproduce reliably (yeah, I know, "right" )Wendy Lee Welton

Gary,
btw - the other reason that I'm urging you to send it to tech support is that this could mean there's something else funky hanging out in your file, that could continue to cause other kinds of grief.Wendy Lee Welton
