    Zooming with X1

Does anyone know why in a rendered overview, you can only zoom in so far and that's it?

    Thanks,

This is a legacy feature from V9, I believe. The wheel in render view changes the camera field of view while in vector view it zooms. These are inconsistent between the views.

I think the right answer is to zoom rather than change the field of view. Any other thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

Changing the field of view only adjusts the relative size of the model when the camera is initially activated. For example, if you set the field of view to 10 then click on the render overview camera, the model appears as large and as "zoomed in" as it's going to get. Of course, you can zoom out as much as you want, but it appears we again have better performance in version 10. This is definitely a limitation and I hope we can get that fixed.

    Tim,
i for in and o for out. Got that figured out. s for spin works in Version 10, but doesn't seem to do anything in X1. Got any ideas on that one? Also, is there a way to slow down the rate of spin. If I just hit "s" my models whip around at about 100 mph, and I can't really see what's going on. I have had success with just tinkering around with the "grab, rotate, and gently release" process with mixed results, but nothing I could count on from view to view. I would like to be able to set up my model and then click the "s" key and have it rotate slowly at a constant predefined speed just to show clients, etc. Is that possible in either of Version 10 or X1?

    DL,

Tim doesn't use X1. I just found out about a week ago or so that you have to use ctrl-alt-s in version X1. The only thing I know of to slow things down is to have a lot of things in the drawing. IF the drawing is too small you might be able to turn on smooth edges etc. to put more demand on the viceo card. This will slow things down.

    Thanks Dennis,
I thought it was a longshot that there might be a setting hidden down in preferences somewhere, but I have missed so many things in X1, that I'm almost embarrassed to ask anymore. Seems if I go ahead and smooth edges it moves in very large increments, kind of herky-jerky. Suppose it will always depend on the model size and the number of polygons. I do appreciate the advice. Have a great day. Dan

    DL,

To adjust the movements change the rotation angle increments under camera preferences. I think the default is 10 degrees. Change it to 1-2 degrees. Don't forget to change it back when your done!

    Dennis,
Thanks a ton. I've got a brick-veneered medical office building 187 feet long, and when I put the camera rotation degrees to .25 it takes 21 seconds for it to rotate slowly around, and everything is as smooth as a baby's you know what. Total control. End of frustration. Dan
