Toilet width 36" vs 30"
Does anyone know why in x1 the standard
width for toilet clearance is 36" instead of
30"?David Skogg

No, but 30" is too tight for most bathrooms to be truthful!

Minimum code here is 15" to center of toilet (to sides). 21" clearance in front of toilet.

The WC's should be 30" as they were in ver10.
Just another strange X1 feature.
I feel like I have taken 1 step forward and 2 steps back.
I am glad I started with ver10 because I know there are many good things in Chief. If I would have started with X1, I would have sent it back because of things like 36" toilets.

Thank goodness for 36" toilets! Agreed code is 15" to center (From FINISHED WALL), except ADA requires 18" to center, but if dimensioned in Chief for 30" (framing?), that means you end up with a 29" toilet space. We've always made our toilets 36" anyway, 30" is just to small unless you're especilly short on room, in which case, just use the control key while placing the toilet and you can squeeze it into a 1'-9" space (21") if so inclined.

George,
With all due respect, change the code.
The toilet should be 30" wide.
I personally design my toilet rooms (and stair widhts) beyond the code minimum.
I do not believe Chief should impose a toilet that exceeds the building code.
There are many things that are desirable that may not be necessary. Why not eliminate Formica countertops? Granite is better, isn't it?

Perhaps chief has considered the obesity epidemic sweeping the 1st world.
I sure see plenty of 36" bums waddling down the street

With all due respect, change the code.
If I would have started with X1, I would have sent it back because of things like 36" toilets.
A tiny work-around like using the Ctrl key to have it fit? I can remember the huge work-arounds in ver10, most of which have been corrected in verX1. Agreed, there might be a few reasons to send X1 back, but I'm not to sure this would be one of them . Anyway, if your 30 days are not up yet......George VanDusen, CPBD, CKD, CID

Even tho the code is 30" shouldn't the design be for Universal design standards ?
At least X1 is reminding us to consider it ?

David,
If you prefer the clearance to be 30", open the symbol, go to the sizing tab and change the width from 36" to 30".Cliff

Good point Lew. A lot of the remodel projects we do now are taking the UDS into consideration. We've been converting an entire house to UDS, on the project we're currently on. With the "Baby Boomers" settling in, this is becoming a concern (toilets, showers, kitchen facilities, floor coverings, doorways, access, etc.).

I have tried opening up the toilet and changing it's size but it
makes for a skinny toilet..you can not change the set backs
on either side...in v10 i was used to bumping the toilet up to
the wall and cabinet and so forth to properly place.. if i use
the ctrl over ride then you have to mess around with dimesioning
it to set it correctly...maybe chief will fix in the future.. i agree
that 36" might be better but this should be a user choice because
in most of canada the min. is 15" from center to either side...David Skogg

David,
Open the symbol spec dbx. It appears you may have opened the Fixture Spec. dbx and changed the width there, but there is no "Sizing" tab, so not for sure what went wrong.Cliff
