    Foundations below grade

I want to show the foundation in dotted lines in a layout sheet.

I do not want to trace the foundation out and change the lines to dotted and then move the viewport up to hide the foundation, because if I make a change to the plan, the change is not shown.

I am not making the elevation into a cad detail and then sending it to the sheet. I like to keep my elevations real time incase changes are made.
(which they always seem to do)

Why can't elevations show hidden lines below the terrain?

    Thank you for any help

    Brian-

This request has been made before, but currently there is no automatic way to do this that is linked to the model. I don't typically do hillside lots so I don't do the below grade lines, but thinking this through: a view to cad of the elevation, then filter out the above grade, make block, assign line style and copy in to saved elevation camera, pt to pt move into place seems like the quickest/best way to do it. The above grade will update with the model, but the below grade will not...so I guess doing it at the very end would be the best way to avoid redoing it for changes.

Another easy way is to use a transparent fill pattern with thick white diagonal lines (and white edge) over the top of the view. Then the view can stay "live". The pattern lines create a dashed line effect.

Pretty clever Richard....could you add that pattern to the wall material, and get the dashed automatically instead of drawing a polyline over the footing...guess that would bring it up above the grade also...just thinking out loud.

Thank you both for your help.

I was hoping that would not be the answer. But maybe on next version (2 years from now)

    Thanks Richard,

I still think we should be ables to do dashed lines using Ver X1 elevations layer set. However, this is a great work around.

OK I really like that one Richard. I wish I had thought of that. One thing I would like to add. You could have one of these filled boxes already present on ones layout template (I have a variety of stuff including a "white out" box) so you would not have to bother making it each time. Also in X1 you can have a dashed line for the foundation layer, the only thing you should have to do is add some short solid lines above grade.

I have now played with this idea a bit and am really liking it. It is very fast. Another place for this object to live is the layout cad detail or the library.(attached to custom icon maybe)

Allen: Fill a p-line with an angle hatch, set hatch weight to 10 or so, set the color to white. Experiment with the spacing and select transparent fill. Then set the p-line color to white also and place the object from the grade line to below your footings. This can be done in layout or in elevation camera.

It was the angle fill then saying transparent that was throwing me off..
