Okay, well, while I'm on a roll, you can use a similar technique with the sand fill pattern to "gray out" parts of an elevation if you want the new area to be emphasized. This creates sort of an interesting stipple line style. Adjusting the lineweight of the fill and/or spacing will let you adjust the density of "gray".
