Those diagrams seem to be what the building dept's want ?

I would prefer to have a graphical approach, preferably in 3D.

Lew - do you mean the 3D's or Iso's? I have never had a building department ask for anything in 3D or Isometric projections.

All of my plumbing and HVAC are done in 2D with CAD....even more so - they look at the notation more so than the lines themselves...they see noted vent and trap sizes as more important than how/where the lines run throughout the house.
