    I have talked to the inspector about it before,more or less=grandfathered in..Was just kidding..
    Do they really deduct living space on the capes?I see the tax man trying to get blood from a stone here..

    The standard used to be 6'8" now it seems to be 7'

    That's going to make it harder to remodel basements and attics etc.

    I think you would be granted an exception for most existing cases, if not just don't get a permit

    I thought it applied to remodels as well ?

    Not getting a permit is "dangerous", If a fire or some other
    "disaster" should occur later and the project wasn't permitted
    then the liablilty would be horrendous

    I have not had any problems permitting an existng area, I do not have a problem with non-permitted work,

    Here's an example of setting the ceiling height to 6'8" and then setting invisible walls at those lines and then changing the room fill for those "rooms" to lllustratge where the usable headroom is.
