Louis you just answered my question in your previous post. I was trying to under stand from your perspective whether you needed many cameras or just a few. It seems you are able to get the job done with a few. (I realize that it could depend on the size of the project)

    Thanks Kevin

Not trying to get into semantics but I'm including cross sections as a camera too, even though in project browser there is a camera label separate from cross section.

    Markers and top plates

How do you get the markers and dimensions to located the floor line and top plate from an elevation view? I always have to create a section first but would much rather be able to have them on an elevation.

    Thanks,

Place the marker in an elevation and then transform/replicate the y position (absolute).

Thanks guys, It's still a little fuzzy. The best thing would be an course or video about the proper setup of a full working drawing plan and how to get there using camera's, cad details, ect. I have just been sending views to the layout without saving any cameras. Im just tring to get my ducks in a row.

    thanks

Perry I agree, while Louis and Tommy have been great help it would be nice to have a tutorial which showed how to set up a full working set of drawings and the use of cameras. After they helped me last week I pulled out my copy of the Star Training series and worked on it this weekend some. There is a section in there that deals with it although it is far from complete.

Perry, if you're sending camera views to the layout, you need to save those cameras so the layout has something to link to. You could also talk to Louis about doing some online training. He is set up for that. Chief does have some sample layouts to look at. Have you done a title page for your layouts?

I will throw this out there and see if it sticks.....I understand the use of multiple layer sets....kinda...I just don't see the need for them. I have used Chief for a couple of years now, run a succesful practice of home design and project management, and I use ONE layer set. In my legacy plan, I have one layer set called MDAD Preference. Everything I need I keep there. Every plan is different, so I add whatever the certain project needs to the list. The list is quite long, but I know where everything is at all times. I don't worry about looking through layersets, where did I put this, where did I put that, etc....I never..well, hardly ever, draw or label anything in layout, and NEVER-EVER dbl click a layout viewport.

This is not a dispute for the way Louis sets things up, just an acknowlegment that keeping the layer sets simple works for me...could work for you.

    Joey,

I know it can be done and I did it when I started.

What I'm saying is you are not working as efficiently as you could be and anyone that has a business like yours needs to work smarter.

I will give you an example. With one set when you need to do an electrical plan you must go in and turn everything else off to show the electrical right? Then you send to layout. Then on to the next thing you want to show. Am I right?

All I do is pick another set that is already set up.

I agree 100%, just making an observation for new users that you are able to work, and produce quality results, using one layer set.

I keep telling myself to take the time and play with the layers, but I never seem to get around to it. I wil be traveling to NoCal in a few weeks for a meeting with a developer, perhaps on the plane would be a good time to play!

You could use the set you made, copy it ,and rename for what layout page you want. Then turn off or on as needed for each layout page.
Then just change the layer set instead of doing all the check boxes..
