And, just where do you specify the number of sides and length... If you do a regular polygon, it just gives you a 4-sided box with no options. I found something about New Polygon Specification in the Help file but no place does it tell you where to find that. Where is it?! All the other references are to Polygon decks and such. I'd say the error was in the omission in the manual! So, why is this thread have all these wonderful less-than-simple ways to make hexagons if it can be done so easily. Great example of the help files not being helpful enough... Try to find it...

I'm already finished with the schedule. It is a small house thank goodness. I used a hexagon call-out with no text, placed it on the back group and put them around a specified label -- numerical sequence for Doors and alphabetical sequence for Windows. Very standard -- so why can't I do it easily in CA!

Glad you are in Australia and working during the day! It is 3:30 a.m. here.....

    Catherine,

Look in the help file for Regular Polygon.
You will find the tool at CAD...Boxes...Regular Polygon.
A 4 sided box is a Rectangular Polyline or a Box.

All those ways of drawing a regular polygon date back to 2007 and V10 - the program has had a few new versions and enhancements since then!

Glenn, I found it in the help file just fine. What I didn't find is where does one find the New Polygon Dialog in all the menus of CA. It does not come up when one draws a regular polygon. So, where is the setting that I've missed... and where is this dialog.

    Catherine,

In the Help file, just scroll up a bit and at the top it tells you where to find the Regular Polygon tool.
I can't make it any clearer than my previous post.
If you are drawing something you have made a mistake - user error!

    OK, once again.
    Go to the CAD menu.
    Scroll down to Boxes.
    Click on Regular Polygon.
The New Regular Polygon dbx will open.

Mystery solved! It is definitely too early in the morning here. My brain seems to be fried... I was clicking on the first item in the drop-down menu -- the rectangular polygon... I think I didn't connect that it was the second one -- Regular Polygon because of the circle symbol. They should use a hexagon!

I think you are using user error much too broadly. But, let's not get into that tonight... In this case, I didn't make any user errors. I did find a work-around that worked properly and correctly with no errors even though it was not the simplest method. One has to do that all the time in CA...

Schedules are not flexible and robust enough. But, that's yet another discussion.

    Enjoy your day!

I just looked up the question: Is a circle a polygon? While there is some argument that it is a polygon with an infinite number of sides, the answer is NO. A polygon has a finite number of sides.

So, no wonder I could't connect the circle symbol to a polygon. Too much education...

    Catherine,
    I'm glad it's all sorted.
That is not a circle it is an octagon.
The user errors just keep coming!

Incredible, 10 posts to explain how to draw a poly line, without a user error. CA, you must make it easier to draw a poly line.

You can pretend you are a surveyor and do it by bearing lines from a start. It'll close.
