Why not go a blank foundation?Your making this more complicated than it should be..
Reference display to see the house foot print, add beams=terrain so post will have footings..Place post where you want them..

My new favorite tool=molding line for the cover...

I think I would do it all from floor one - then it is just a matter of setting proper elevations, thicknesses and dimensioning as required ... and, yes, put them on separate layers so you can turn them on and off as needed for when you are sending views to L.O.

    Doug:

Floors and ceilings can't be assigned to a layer.

Hopefully, this will be fixed in ver 11

Good moring Allen , Thanks.....I'm actually suprised there is no wall definition for this type foundation. Where my summer home is and where Bill is referring to, that is your only option to foundations, You can't build on anything but piers by my house. But this is how they do it.
And alot of existing homes are being raised up to be put on piers. But anything new has to be off the ground in this fashion.

    Hi Doug
Can you use an 8' foundation wall sticking out of the ground?
What is the reason for that?
And did you make a symbol of your post with the notch?

No, it has to be piers, where my summer house is, it's an Island only 1/2 mi wide if that at the widest and maybe 800 feet at the narrowest. It is more like a big sand barge. And when we get big storms the ocean and the bay meet in the middle. So they adopted to only allow building on piers. There are however some stores with the normal foundations. I guess just impractical for piers. And yes I made the symbol in SketchUp. And asigned it Woolmanized lumber which someone posted. (sorry I don't recall who) I'll post the symbol if anyone wants it. You will have to tell me how to though.

I looked at the Railing Idea. Try this:
    1. Create a blank foundation
    2. Draw in railings where you want your piers
    3. Set the Floor default height to -96 (or your desired height)
    4. Open the Railing and set it to Open, Post to Ceiling, No Shoe. Leave everything else on the railing tab unchecked.
    5. On the Newels/Balusters tab, Set the Railing height to 84 (or the desired height minus the vertical depth of the beam, in my case 12 inches.) Set eh Newel width to 12 (or the desired diameter of the post) Set the newel type to round and set your desired spacing. (or try a library object) Uncheck Default and choose to draw newels and balusters.
    6. On the Hand Rail tab set the beam thickness and depth in the width and height labels.
    7. Set the railing to No Room Def. to avoid the floor.
