top stair tread issues
Hi folks,
I seem to be consistently having this problem with my stairs in various projects. It's probably a small fix but I just can't seem to figure it out. It appears as thought the overhang of the very top tread (hence the finish floor that the stair is going up to) will not match the material I have chosen for either the stair tread or finish flooring. I usually end up with a white "strip" as you can see in the photo. Any ideas on how to fix?
Thanks,
Greg

Greg,
Slide the stair in the thickness of the nosing.

Louis,
This solution works well for this situation since I just have stair going down to grade from a deck and I can freely move it about. However, I often build my models up from a cad plan and the stairs are in U and L configurations and are set in a defined stairwell. By moving the stair the thickness of the bullnose I'm either 1. resizing the stair/landing such that it doesn't fill the stairwell anymore or 2. disconnecting the stair section from the landing. Is there a more proper way of correcting the problem than what you first suggested?
Much appreciated,
Greg

Greg,
The strip is controlled in your Preferences/Material/General/Floor. But by changing there, you will need to check all your other floors and make sure you get them correct. If not mistaken, the strip is the tread overhang.Last edited by ambrozac; 11-20-2006 at 12:07 PM.

You can cover the deck with a poly solid so it hangs over on the edges, use decking material.
This gives the decking an over hang to...........

Greg,
Look at how chief handles a landing.
...and when I do this I usually make the floor overhang so the nosing is not an issue.Last edited by louis; 11-20-2006 at 05:46 PM.
