Large beam in mid-air

I have essentially a U-shaped house with a covered deck between the two outer portions of the house. The entire house has 12 foot ceilings. No ceiling over the deck, just roof. So the deck roof is lower than the two outer portions. Now I have one of those magically appearing beams showing up. BUT, it is above the roof of the deck from one outer portion of house to the other, like a really long fascia. Now I am really stumped.

This is usually caused by a roof plane being out of place.
