    Waterfall Woes

I built what I "thought" was a nicely rendered waterfall. But when I RayTrace it, it looks like cardboard. (See attached comparison.) I tried all the different RayTrace option (except bumpmap), but they don't seem to change the results at all. Why don't the transparent and translucent options do anything? Thanks if you can help...

    Good Morning Dave!

Good looking water is a matter of practice with the adjustments as you most likely are doing. I spend many an hour with every water view and can say only half come out looking good. It is a real challenge.

As you can see, it takes a bit of fiddling, and render and raytrace aren't going to both work with a given setting. That odd looking stripe pattern gives a decent falling water look.

In render you should go to "Advanced" instead of "Simple". The settings seem to affect raytrace as well.

    Hope this helps,

    John S.
