Lamar,

I don't have a layer set for door and window schedules. There is no need. Once the schedules are created in a cad detail , they can be sent to the layout at any point and to any page. Sounds like your set up is limiting.

LaMar by doing it the way I'm suggesting the schedules never show up in any plan view so you have more control.

on my Floor Plan and I cannot figure out how to get rid of it on my Floor Plan.
Turn off window labels in the set that you don't want them to show.

Another thing you are having trouble with is text. Don't put any text on the default layer.
Make new user layers for all your text.

Here is an example of what Christina was talking about. In the old days when I generated a cross section I would turn off all the stuff I didn't want to show in my section..(eg. mouldings, cabinets, fixtures) and turn on wall and floor framing. Then I would generate the cross section and go back and return my layers to their original state. Now in version 10 I switch to a "cross section" layer set, generate the section then switch back to default.

LaMar,

Open the Layer Display dbx.
Make sure Modify All Layer Sets is unchecked.
Go to your layer set that you use for your floor plans - Default Set? Floor Plan Set?
Go to the "Windows, Labels" layer and uncheck the 2D column.

Go back up to the top and make your "Windows & Door Schedules" layer set current.
Make sure "Windows, Labels" is checked in the 2D column.

That should be it.

When you are in your normal floor plan set, the labels on the floor plan should be turned off, when you are in the "Windows & Doors Schedule" layer set, the labels on the floor plan should display.

I just had a thought (as you mentioned "layout label" - which is a confusing term), you aren't double clicking a layout to get back to the floor plan are you?
Because if this is the case, it's a whole different scenario.
The same applies if you have already sent the views to layout.
The above will not work properly in these cases.
So, for the moment, ignore what is happening in layout, just concentrate on what is happening in the main Chief floor plan window.

If the problem is with layout, let me know and we can cover that next.

Glen,

What you were responding to is a text issue not a label turned on or off issue.

Louis,

Aren't we talking about the display of automatically generated window labels?

Glen,

So now if someone can explain how to get rid of the layout label that is on the floor plan,
I believe the layout label he is talking about is the text he added to label the plan. LaMar?

I understand how to use layer sets and I do use them in producing plan sets but I know I could be much more organized about it and save more time and work. I am interested in the class.

It would be really cool if you could record these and then charge people to view them. I would love to take some but it would probably have to be on the weekend or in the evening.

Layers, layer sets

Lewis,
I'd be interested in the class as well. I know I'm not using them at anywhere near their potential.

Glen and Louis,

I'm not real clear now on what he needs but just a thought, why can't he just turn off the window and/or door labels in whatever layerset he doesn't want to see them in?

Tommy,

He can. I believe he typed in some labels himself to label the plan views. He did this on the default text layer. All of his default text is showing up on all sets.

If this is true, then he just needs to put that text on a different layer so it can be turned off in whatever layerset he wants right?

Hi Louis,

If you do put together a class on layer sets, I'd be interested. I use Chief for working drawings, and really need to be more efficient about it. Best practices for layerset management would be a big help.

BTW, I've had some annoying plan corruption issues lately, which ART said are due to custom layers I created. Have you ever experienced this? They say its a bug that will be fixed in the next update. Since then, I've been afraid to create custom layers at all. When I need a new layer, I find a default one I'm not using and just rename it.

Mark,

I'm not louis but I'll say this:

I create layers in every plan I do so that I can turn off certain things in certain layersets. I never have problems with created layers corrupting a plan. I don't ever remember having a corrupted plan that I created though.
