Windows not showing
I have CA 9.54. For some reason the window in the outside wall of each of three gable dormers are not showing in a cross section view, or the full overview. Only the window casings are showing in these two views. I can select them in either the cross section or full overview. However, they do show clearly in the plan view and the floor overview. Don't know how to take & post a picture here, otherwise I would (tips on how to do this would help also).
I have deleted the exterior wall, rebuilt it, added windows again, but to no avail. Any suggestions??
Thanks,
AlLast edited by Al Launier; 11-01-2005 at 07:24 AM.

I know of two ways to make window(glass) disappear. In plan view go to the pull down menu 3D then 3D preferences, then select or deselect "opaque glass from outside"
Window glass can also be made to disappear, in all views by selecting the window, and making one of the sash widths zeroYour privacy is important to us, your personal details will handled discreetly, and will not be shared with anyone except the CIA, FSB, MI6 or similar, then they will be placed on a USB stick and left on a bus.

Al,
Use the export tool and save your current screen shot as a jpeg onto your "desktop".
Then...with photoshop or an equal program...you'll have to resize the image so that it's below the maximum number of kilobits.
Now you can include the photo with your post so we can ponder your predicament.
Sometimes the exterior wall of the dormer face is getting *pinched* by the roof.... which cuts off not only the wall surface, but the windows too.
Is this the type of dormer you are talking about?

VHampton, yes but more basic. I'll try what you suggest to post a picture.
ARCHIJEF2000, I checked out your suggestions to see if I inadvertently set things up to make windows disappear, but I haven't. I created a window in a different wall and it shows.
Thanks,
AlAl

Thumbs up on the picture attachment.
Now for the 2 cents worth....
My guess is that the roof edge is the culprit. Your windows appear to be sitting pretty low to the main roof.
Can you delete one of them and try another size?...with the sill just about 3 to 4 inches above the roof shingles.

It looks like the sill could use an apron to get it off of the shingles.

Tanks VH, easy once you know, but at my age easy to forget.
I'm posting two additional pics. 1st = floor plan, 2nd = new window to much smaller size. Problem remains.
Thanks again,

At least the rest of the group can see what you're dilemna is. Very strange why the dormer "gable end" walls appear, but not the windows?
Do you have a look at the wall properties?
Maybe aside from having the gables checked off as "gable end"...there's some other specification that may be causing the problem?
...roof intersects wall tab?
I'm sure louis or Tim will save the day for you.

I think it is either cieling hight proplem(raise it or have no cieling) or no hole in roof.
Looks like attic walls are forming and blocking your windows.
But I could be totaly wrong to

...one more try.
Can you use the break tool to eliminate the walls between the dormers?
I wonder if this will disassociate the dormer faces from the main continuous wall which may be designated as a "knee wall" or "attic wall" as Allen pointed out.
...hole in roof solution may also be the answer.

When I remove the roof openings, the window appear. But then the walls don't. Somehow related to the roof openings which seem to be preventing the widows from appearing; even when the roof openings iare oversized, well away from the walls. ???
The knee walls are individual walls, all originally made from one continuous knee wall running the full length oft he room, and then broken to suit the joining gable walls.
At each side of the gable end walls there are attic walls. Why are they there at all when the main gable roof should prevent them to begin with???
Time to step away from this for a while. Has to be an easy solution that I'm simply overlooking.Last edited by Al Launier; 11-01-2005 at 10:40 AM.

After much time spent on this problem, it is finally(?) fixed with a lesson learned. It appears that the culprit was the roof opening whereby I hadn't drawn it back far enough up the main roof causing CA to do some strange things. Can't exactly nail it down after having tried so many things, but it's definitely related to the roof opening.
Thanks to all for your help.
