    Big Indy,

Just caught this thread. You mentioned it is a residential project. Are you sure ADA applies (usually not for a single family)? If you are designing a universal bathroom for elderly or impaired, then obviously it is good to stick with the ADAAG (ADA guidelines; used to be under US D.O.Justice web, I think it has moved since).

Besides the 60" clear turning radius (of which, a lavatory of certain clearance can protrude into 8"), there are clearance requirements for each fixture in a the bathroom (at the ADAAG website).

Also, your state may have adopted some (and even modified) ADA guidelines into it's own building code (CT has, with some modifications).

Also, some things to consider here in the US:

ADA is a Federal Law (not a building code), and is enforced by lawsuits of grieved parties (not building code officials).

ADAAG is a listing of standards/guidelines (much like CABO or IRC are not building codes in and of themselves, until they are adopted by the states).

A state may incorporate ADAAG guidelines (in whole or in part, or modify standards) into its own building code, which then is enforceable by building code officials.

Hope that helps in some way...

    Blessings,

    John

    Thanks John,

This is a residential project, but it is a retirement condo development, that the developer wants to do everything he can to make it desireable to the retired. So I am trying to follow the guidelines not out of code, but out of good planning.
