Thanks for all your responses and links. I misstated when I said firewall. I meant fire rated barrier wall that separates residents verses the a firewall that separates adjoining buildings.

Slatta, the problem with putting a window in a firewall is that it has to be rated as you stated, and that can be a nightmare to do and get pass the cities. I did a douplex about four years ago in Hartford, CT and the distance from the separation wall and the window was an issue. I would refer to that file but I misplaced my files when I relocated.

As I said I really enjoy and appreciate the support you guys give.
