Adjust Full Render Camera
I'm pretty new to CA but I am really enjoying the design abilities of this program. Learning a new system always creates questions and I have found that by searching the chat room posts I can answer alot of them.( that and hrs with the CA ref. manual)
I would like to be able to take full render overviews that encompass only the building and the desired terrain. Now when I take that view the desired subject is too small.I like the default camera angle .I guess I wish it was a little closer. Is there a way to set that in defaults or pref.
Appreciate the help and hope to be able to contribute soon.RL Inc. -Residential construction and design

RL.
Welcome! I don't see any default settings just for overview cameras so your recourse is manual adjustment ater the view is on screen.

Thanks for the response. I can just wheel in after the view generates to the desired distance.
Was wondering if youmight be able to help with another issue.
When I apply different material to a gable end ( say with the material painter) it sometimes will apply to unrelated surfaces.( ie deck railing) I know that they must be linked somehow and attic wall and retain attic framing can be involved. Any ideas.RL Inc. -Residential construction and design

RL,
The better method is to go to the attic level and change the attic wall to a different wall type that carries the material you want (you can shift-select all the attic walls at once and change them at one time). Otherwise you can get unwanted changes elsewhere as you have observed. Provided the walls you want to have framing have a framing layer it should not affect the generated framing.

the way i do this is to zoom in with the scroll as far as i can and then use the "other tool" not sure what its called to get closer by hitting the forward arrow. i have found that i can get closer with some camera tools then the others

If you use the mouse wheel in any render camera, this will change your Field of View. Changing your field of view is similar to using the zoom feature on a camera and going from a wide angle lens to a narrow one. This can cause some distortion and make the view look funny at the extremes.
Instead of using the mouse wheel, I recommend using the "i" and "o" keys to move the camera "in" and "out" or closer to/farther from the focus point.Dermot Dempsey

Thanks for the reply info. The wheel method seems to do the job.

If you tile the 3d view along with a plan view you can watch what happens to the camera as you move in and out with whatever method you choose.
I use the I and O like Dermot says. If you do that, the camera gets closer to/further from the focal point. If you press F or B the focal point moves with the camera.
Check out the training cds for more info.
