    putting plans on disk

as of being computer dumb can a person download a plan to a disk, floppy or something , take it to a customers house and show them the results on their computer? If not the plan, how about a rendering?

    Dennis:

You would need to creat views in a format that their computer and software could read.

Such as: ".wmf" (Metafile)for plans and ".bmp" (Bitmap)files for color plans and renderings. Screen shot programs can work and some people are using .pdf files that can be opened in Adobe Acrobat reader.

You could copy the Chief files but they would need to download the Chief Architect demo to be able to open them.

    Hope that helps,
    Larry

One way is to order the v7 demo disc that you could load onto their computer to open the chief files...another is to convert the files to *pdf format for viewing with acrobat reader available for free....

    Mr. Shannon,

Larry and Tim have given you very good, workable advice but there is NO subsitute for knowing what you are doing and how to do it. Knowledge and competance are their own reward, educate yourself about computers, software and the internet and it will empower you ten-fold. It's Fun too!

    Sincerely

Chief Architect has videos and manuals for its software for you to study that are well produced and written.

Computers and software data can be had at sites like ZDNET, CNET, WINMAG.com and many , many other free internet information sites.

I have learned much of what I know about Chief, Computers, the internet and software at the "chief-users" open forum at yahoo.com.

    Best Regards

It amazes me how under utilized the ALT-PRINT-SCREEN function is used. It's been around for years. See something on the screen you want to copy?? Press ALT-Print Screen, bring up the Windows Paintbrush program, Click Edit, Click Paste now save it as a .BMP for Bitmap file readable on virtually every computer out there!!!

As Rick points out using Alt+PrintScreen on your keyboard will copy the open Window to the clipboard and just the PrintScreen button will copy the entire desktop...Paint will also save as *.jpg which are good for e-mail as their file size is generally smaller...depending on the screen resolution you are using, screen captures can be quite large.....you can control the size of the *jpg or *.bmp by first reducing the window's size prior to using the Alt+PrintScreen buttons...youcan also paste these into other apps(wordpad, word) although they generally are much large files than using a graphics program...

Tim, Rick and David, Thanks for the information on the machine. Will try to learn more about all of this. Just one year ago never had a computer then bought 3d, then Chief 6 then 7, so it has been a busy year. Use the group all of the time. They're great out there. David , will look at the tapes more to see if I can get it. Thanks all Dennis Shannon
