The way to make a custom 1/4" plate mirror is to make a 1/4" polyline solid on the wall. Size it like you want apply the mirror material to it. In version 10 you can block this item and make it into a symbol without going through the symbol creator. Then you will have this mirror for other projects.

    Hi Jay.

I did it in 3D Studio Max, but it can probably be done in any other 3D cad software. How it's made in Chief I guess Louis can tell you, I have no idea.

I just started with a Chamferbox with the height double of the final sink, and I had the height in 2 sections so that I could cut the Chamferbox in half and just save the bottom part. I made the fillets in 10 sections and I just scaled/moved up each of the fillet sections to make the shape of the sink. Then I scaled the corners to make them rounder closer to the bottom.

If you want to have the sink I made, send me a E-mail to the address below.

    Smile and be happy.

    Great work!

    Louis,

I made the flourescent light strip to go behind the glas fixture but now how do I get the light to shine through the fixture? The fixture is blocking the light when I do the ray trace.

    By the way louis,

As you can see I did eventually break down and converted a profile into a molding. . But how do I get the rectangular shape?

    Thanx all for your time

Have you adjusted the transparency of the glass? Also try making the glass a lighting material as well.

Look at the way some of the other light fixtures in Chief are made up.

hey Night, isn't 3d studio one of those expensive cad programs? :-) Nice work, was the image you rendered done in Chief or in 3d studio?

Makes me think I need a really good modeling program. Then I could really never get any real work done! ;-)

    Hi Jtcapa.

It is more expensive then many other 3d Softwares but everything is relative, if you compare it to Maya or Softimage then it's cheap. If you are looking to make any kind of symbol/object then you need a powerful software and 3DS max has everything you need to make any 3D scene. I don't have the last version of the program, but it has everything I need for my work.

All the images are made in Chief, with default light.

If you are looking for a good software you should check out Lightwave, Truespace or Rhino, they are cheaper but still are very good when it comes to symbol making. I choose the 3DS max because I teach people to use it over the net, beginners and intermediate classes.

    Lars -

Very pretty sink! How many polygons is it made of?

    Thanks,

    Lars:

I get offers to buy true space with tutorials for around $100. It is one version back. Should I do this sometime ?

I have Sketchup and Turbocad but will probably sell TC at some point as it seems difficult to use.

Is Truespace easier to use ?

Is it a Solid Modeler ?

    Thanks

    Hi Guys.

Robert; it has 2185 faces/Polygons in total, I probably can reduce it a little but I don't think it's too many because I want to make it as realistic as possible.

Lewis; Yes it’s a Solid modeller but it exports to a lot of different formats, and yes it’s easier to use than TurboCAD for instance, but I think you should get one of the other Softwares before the Truespace. If I rank the Softwares I have 1 – Lightwave, 2 – Rhino, 3 – Truespace.
I used it for a while in version 3 I think it was and I found it to be a little childish and not very professional as Lightwave for instance. If you look at the screen shots of Truespace you see that it has a very colourful layout and the icons are designed and big. I also remember that the DXF export didn’t work perfectly, maybe that has changed don’t know. If I was you I would download the demo versions and test to see if I liked one of them. Any 3D software is different from each other so you have to test and see. I like Lightwave and the gurus make some incredible things with it, it has one of the best Rendering/Ray trace engines out there.

Have a great day and take care of each other.
