Apple 30" cinema display

Is anyone using the 30" apple cinema display on a PC? If so, any info will be appreciated on how to change the resolution. It currently only works in 1280x800, but is capable of 2560x1600.

Do you have the latest driver for your video card and monitor installed? What video card do you have? I just swapped out my matrox dual head for a something else. I was trying to run a dual display setup but my DVI port wouldnt support the native res. of display #1.

Might want to try getting a current driver if you havent done that yet.

Thanks Rob, I had not thought of the driver cause the card is so new, but probably sat on the shelf for a year before I got it. I have the Asus EN6800 Ultra.

I Have an Apple 23" Cinema. It's great but it's expensive. I would suggest looking at the 24" widescreen flat panel from Dell for $899. It can do 1920x1200. Look on the following site: www.bensbargains.net for the details about the coupons and rebates. Hope this helps.

Guys, I don't mean to highkjack this thread but the one thing I DON'T get is the wide screen layout.

I am realizing that entertainment is the best use for MOST laptop users and represents a huge market but does the widescreen really work better for anyone in Chief? I so prefer a more square screen. Anyone else?

I have the Dell 20.1" widescreen as display #1 and the 19" standard as display #2. For me, I think its nice to have but I dont need it. It seems to help me... but what helps me more is the dual monitor...again something I dont need but is nice to have. I just happened to have a spare monitor and tried it... liked it so i'm not switching back. I can have all my tools on one monitor (secondary) and have a fullscreen of just workspace (autocad/photoshop/chief/etc.) while keeping an eye on the chieftalk forums

huh? oh wait, I think you may have the wrong idea. Are you thinking that I am running the displays off of the laptop? because I am not...my desktop is on the floor.... I am servicing that laptop.

Rob; Very nice setup! That's kinda what I'm after. I already have a Samsung 21" that will become my second monitor, and the 30" Apple will be the #1 monitor. I got the drivers for the video card(s) and will put them on tomorrow afternoon to see if that works out my resolution problem. Even at 1200x800 though, Chief is pretty awesome on a screen that's 16" tall and 25" wide. I've read all of the threads that talk about the wasted real estate on a widescreen, and that may only apply to a layout page (who cares), but when you have a plan up, you can sure save a lot of time scrolling left and right. I just want a little higher resolution for other stuff, not necessarily Chief. It's nice to be able to see the screen from 8' away without glasses.

Wow, your setup kick butt! 24" primary and 21" sec. thats nice!

How did you find the driver? download or you have the disc? I tried searching on the Asus site but it seemed to have problems. I hope that the drivers works out for you... had the same problems displaying the native res. for my two monitors when I got them and after installing the drivers it was fine. Maybe post some pics when you get it all set up.

wide vs. square:

Personally, I just want screen space! My laptop is a 17" wide screen because that's the biggest thing I could get my hands on. For a desktop, I would get the standard format if it was just as big, because it's closer to the width-height ratio of standard draying sheets.

My desktop monitor is 21", and now I'm drooling over that 24" mama!

For me screen space matters a lot because I do design in front of people, and it helps them see. I use Print Image to make them a PDF of all the design options as we go. For the standard monitor, I send it to 8 1/2" x 11, for the wide screen I send it to 8 1/2" x 14".
