How to lengthen dashes on lines?

This is for v10.02a. I've browsed the manual, but can't find how to adjust an existing line style or create a new one. The problem is in a 1" to 20' site plan, Chief's dashed lines appear solid - the scale is way to small. How to I either change the scale of the line so the dashes are readable at 20th scale or create a new dashed line?

    Thanks for any help.

You can add your own lines.

    Navigate, Program Files>ART Inc>Chief Architect xx, MATERIAL.DAT

    Open MATERIAL.DAT with Notepad.

    Find this section:

    LINESTYLES
    *SOLID,Solid, (1x) ________________________________________
    A,1.000
    *DASH,Dash, (1x) __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __
    A,0.150,-0.075
    *DOT,Dot (1x) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
    A,0.075,-0.075
    *DASHDOT,Dash Dot, (1x) __ . __ . __ . __ . __ . __ . __ .
    A,0.400,-0.100, 0.100,-0.100
    *DASHDOTDOT, Dash Dot Dot, (1x) __ . . __ . . __ . . __ . .
    A,0.400,-0.080, 0.01,-0.080, 0.01,-0.080
    ;
    *ISO02W100,ISO dash __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __
    A,.48,-.12
    *ISO03W100,ISO dash space __ __ __ __ __ __

At the end of the LINESTYLES section, add your own like this:

    * (indicates comments)
A,+0.400,-0.400 (data, +pen down length, -pen up length, etc.)

It's prudent to copy the original MATERIAL.DAT to a safe place in case you mess up.

    A word of caution here.

This is not portable from one user to another. If you make this change on your machine and give a plan to another Chief user they will not have your line styles.

Additionally, you probably want to work with page setup to do what you are attempting. Assuming your site plan is in a CAD detail. Open page setup in your detail and set your scale to 1" = 20'. The dashes and your line weights should scale well now.

    Thanks for answering everyone.

Doug - I don't use CAD details in my work so my site plan is just another window I send to layout. (I don't do working drawings in case you're wondering how the heck I could never have used CAD details...)

But just to try and see what you're talking about I created a CAD detail, but I don't know where this page setup is... Is there a section in the manual I can read that explains what you're talking about?

And otherwise it sounds like the only recourse for the way I currently do my site plan is to create my own linestyle with the caution that it won't go with the plan to other users.

I don't remember having this problem with the scale of dashed or other dash-dot lines before v10...

    File>Print>Page Setup...

Just do the same thing in your plan and you will probably be happy unless you are also sending to layout at another scale as well.

If you are just printing the one view, then you might as well just do it all right in the plan.

Printing from plan or layout is almost identical except that the layout scale is normally 1:1 and you send the view to layout at the desired scale.

In the page setup dialog check the show sheet option.

Use Scale to Fit and Center Sheet to get close.

Then in the plan view click on the edge of the sheet and then you can move it relative to the plan with the center move handle just like editing a simple cad box.
