Box out Kitchen Window 6"
I want to take a standard kitchen window and push it out 6".
The counter top will become the bottom jamb extension.
There is a window above this window so there will be a flat roof over the top.
On the outside the wall will not extend down more than 8 to 12" below the window.
Any suggestions????????
Thanks Larry

Larry,
Somebody else taught me this neat trick - After you put your window in, open it, go to the Sash and Frame tab, set the inset (bottom right) to a negative number. It will look a little funny in plan (make a block to go over it - to make-a-looka-righta), and you might have to add some trim with polyline solids on the outside - but it will put the window out where you want it.

Wendy
The setting is currently at 1/8 and when I change that, it jumps back to 1/8.
Thanks Larry

Wendy,
I am n ot getting this to work either. I have tried several combinations and the window just stays the same even if the negative number holds.
I remember the post from months ago and I could not get it to work then either. Is there another setting somewhere that needs to be selected?Dennis Gavin CR, CKBR

The 1/8 inch is at the Sash depth - go to the Frame Depth. It's at the very bottom in version 10. I don't remember where it is in 9.54 - but look for Frame Depth.

Wendy,
I tired frame depth but even when I set it to -6, -12, whatever nothing happens. I can get the sash to move to the interior(which would need to have a frame made around it) but I can't get anything to go out!:mad:Dennis Gavin CR, CKBR

I have tried all different #'S in the FRAME Setting & DEPTH Setting with no change to the window.
I must be missing something.

Mine projects using the beta copy of 10. this is what it looks like using a negative 6 in the inset box.

Louis,
I have 9.5 and it won't do that. I know others have gotten it to work so something has to be being missed somewhere??????Dennis Gavin CR, CKBR

Louis,
That's exactly what I get. I believe this trick worked in 9.54 also. I'm not sure what's not working for Larry.

Wendy,
I don't believe that this works with 9.54.

Chief Architect .. brings you another episode of :
"Objects Behaving Badly"
a (wild desperate depressing frustrated ) guess would be that it has something to do with that 'panadoras box' known as "Defaults" which would include whether or not your window ...
. . is still dynamic defaulted
. . whether that window was changed from the Default condition
. . or whether it's still in the "
. . etc. ad nauseumgrp
