I'm very green, so pardon me if I give dumb suggestions - but...
I wonder if you could create it a little further away, to keep it from attaching, make a block out of it, and then move it into place. If it's part of a whole run of cabinets, you'd probably have to block the whole lot of them to get the seams to come out right.

I wish I could take full credit. Rachel, on this forum as Artform, did most of the heavy lifting.
By the way, I got the files today (yep, USPS, on Sunday!!!) and I'm rendering it up right now. I think we have a winner!
